Krisia's place...

Before coming to serve at the BWC, I had hoped that I would be able to meet other musicians from other places and play music with them. I had no idea it would happen so quickly and with such good musicians! On Monday, August 20, 2001, an informal gathering was held at my flat. David McKinney brought his guitar, John Hicks was invited for his amazing voice, and David Gappy, a bassist, came along to listen. The most I had hoped for was a chance to jam with some other musicians. By the end of the evening we had worked on 3 songs which we decided to play at the Arts Cafe being held at the end of the following week. I was flying, as, I'm sure, were the others. The songs that we had worked on were all written by David McKinney, who hadn't mentioned it beforehand, but he has an amazing voice. They were all in Spanish, but that wasn't too much of a challenge for our co-vocalist, John Hicks, who took it in stride and learned all the Spanish lyrics.... what a professional! With the aid of a minidisk of the rehearsal, by the following week, John had written and perfected background vocals, and Gappy had composed mean bass lines for all the songs. We got a confirmed slot in the Arts Cafe and the rest is history!
